The Elephant of Burkina Faso
The elephant of Burkina Faso is a symbol of the region's wildlife and represents part of Africa's rich biodiversity. In Burkina Faso, elephants are primarily found in Nazinga National Park and Comoé National Park.
Over the years, Burkina Faso’s elephants have faced several challenges, including habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching for ivory. “April 22, 2025 and Bazoulé – The Wisdom of the Crocodiles”
Sabou and Bazoulé Lakes: Between Nature, Legend, and Ancestral Spirits

Just a few kilometers from Ouagadougou, the lakes of Sabou and Bazoulé hold ancient legends and are home to the majestic sacred crocodiles—creatures believed to bring good fortune and protection. The Legend of Lake Sabou It is said that one day, a hunter—exhausted from hunger and thirst—came across a crocodile. With a sweep of its tail, the animal offered him water and guided him to Lake Sabou, saving his life. In gratitude, the hunter vowed never to harm these creatures again, giving rise to a sacred bond between humans and the crocodiles of the lake. The Mystery of Lake Bazoulé The story of Bazoulé is linked to the reign of Naba Kouda. When it came time to choose a successor among his four sons, it was the youngest who was chosen. When his father asked if he was ready for the task, the boy confidently replied: “I’m not foolish—I can do it!” Since then, it is believed that humans and crocodiles share the same spirit. Sacred Crocodiles and Traditional Rituals Even today, during festivals, locals offer sacrifices to the crocodiles to ask for health, fertility, success, good fortune, and protection from enemies.
Despite their wild nature, these animals are incredibly calm and accustomed to human presence, allowing visitors to approach them for a truly unique and fascinating experience. Come discover the mystical charm of the sacred lakes of Burkina Faso! 🐊✨
April 25, 2025 – A Day Dedicated to Visiting the City of Tiébélé and the Elephants

Located in the south of Burkina Faso, Tiébélé is home to magnificent examples of traditional architecture, all hand-decorated, making this place truly magical and unique. While in most of the country houses are typically built with mud in earthy tones, in Tiébélé everything changes—colors and patterns come to life. This village has become not only a jewel of Burkina Faso, but a true treasure of the African continent. The homes, built without windows and designed with defensive purposes in mind, resemble miniature fortresses. Their walls are adorned with geometric patterns, each carrying symbolic meanings. These intricate decorations are made with natural pigments derived from mud and plants, and the art has been passed down from generation to generation. For centuries, the women of the village have created these designs using guinea fowl feathers as brushes, preserving an ancestral tradition with deep cultural significance.

My name is Seydou Kienou. I am a musician, percussionist, singer, and dancer – and this is my story.
I was born in Burkina Faso into a family of Griots, traditional musicians and oral historians. My childhood was marked by silence. A severe ear infection left me deaf at a young age, preventing me from completing primary school with my peers. But the Djembé spoke for me – through its powerful vibrations, I could still feel the music, and it helped me overcome the illness. The call of the drum was irresistible: I learned to play despite my deafness. The Djembé became my voice, my path, and my life. At the age of 14, I won a music competition in Burkina Faso. That event caught the attention of a German doctor, who, after learning about my condition, decided to help me. He brought me to Germany for surgery that would allow me to regain my hearing. And it worked. Once in Germany, I began performing to let the world hear the voice of my Djembé. During a concert, a little girl approached me – poorly dressed, I assumed she was from a humble background. She told me she hadn't eaten all day so she could come and listen to me.Moved by her words, I bought her a meal and, upon her persistent request, gave her my personal drum – the one I never parted with. Her father, who was actually a wealthy and generous man, was so touched by my gesture that he took me under his wing as if I were his own son. Once again, the Djembé had protected and guided me. Thanks to him, I recovered almost all of my hearing, and my career as a musician never stopped growing. The Djembé was my salvation – and it still is my entire life. Through it, I’ve come to know generosity, gratitude, and love in all its forms. I’ve learned the values of education, tolerance, and respect. The Djembé has always been – and remains – my bridge to the world. This is the message I want to share. The rhythm of the drum has always been a call to gathering and sharing. And today, through that same rhythm, I invite everyone to openness and mutual listening – without prejudice – creating space for compassion, tolerance, positivity, and the joy of giving and receiving. Because those who give are often happier than those who receive. The drum is an instrument of peace, a unifier of peoples beyond borders and cultures. The vibrations of the Djembé bring people together – they know no division. They open us to the other, without fear or barriers. This is my Djembé: a message of love for all the people of the world.
